Product Summary
The Traditions Ceiling board dimensions are 5” x 3/8”x 16’. What makes the Traditions Ceiling Board unique is the fact that it is the only synthetic that can be installed with the ceiling joist 24” OC.
Further, the ceiling board can be painted any color due to the nature of our proprietary paint grade formulation. (See paint instructions and paint rebate at Aeratis.com). The Traditions ceiling board not only saves time and money during the installation process, it dramatically reduces the overall construction cost due to the significant advantage of the 24” OC span rating over every other synthetic on the market.
Construction and Materials
Aeratis offers a distinctive and high-quality beam ceiling system designed to bring warmth, character, and a touch of rustic charm to any space. These beam ceilings are meticulously crafted to replicate the look and feel of antique hand-hewn timbers, providing an authentic architectural element without the cost and complexity of real antique beams.
The construction of Aeratis beam ceilings is based on a hollow, multi-sided profile. This design is engineered for both aesthetic appeal and practical installation. Each beam is constructed from a lightweight, durable material that allows for easy handling and mounting. The hollow core simplifies the installation process significantly, making it an accessible option for both professional contractors and ambitious DIYers.
The primary material used in the construction of Aeratis beam ceilings is a high-density polyurethane foam. This material is chosen for its ability to be molded and finished to precisely mimic the textures and imperfections found in antique wood. The polyurethane allows for intricate detailing, such as the grain patterns, knots, and chisel marks characteristic of hand-hewn beams. This process ensures that each beam possesses unique visual qualities, enhancing the overall authenticity of the ceiling design.
The finishing of the beams is a crucial aspect of their construction, contributing to their realistic appearance. Aeratis employs a multi-step finishing process that involves:
- Molding: The initial casting of the polyurethane into the desired beam shape, incorporating the hand-hewn texture.
- Hand-Painting and Staining: Each beam is individually hand-painted and stained by skilled artisans. This process replicates the natural aging and color variations found in genuine antique wood. Multiple layers of stain and paint are applied to achieve depth, character, and a natural patina.
- Sealing: A protective sealant is applied to enhance durability and maintain the finish over time.
The result is a product that is virtually indistinguishable from real antique wooden beams in terms of visual appearance and texture. Despite their realistic look, Aeratis beams are significantly lighter than solid wood, which reduces the structural load on the ceiling and simplifies the installation process. This lightweight construction also means that specialized structural support is typically not required, further streamlining the installation.
Aeratis beam ceilings are available in a variety of styles and finishes to complement different interior design aesthetics. These options allow customers to select beams that best match their desired look, whether it be a rustic farmhouse, a cozy lodge, or a sophisticated craftsman-style interior.

- Barnwood Red: Inspired by reclaimed barn wood, this finish incorporates reddish-brown hues and authentic-looking distressing marks. It brings a rustic and historical character to spaces.
- White Washed: A lighter, airier option, the White Washed finish provides a soft, subtle look. It lightly coats the beam, allowing some of the underlying texture and natural wood tones to show through, creating a coastal or farmhouse feel.
- Custom Stains: Aeratis may also offer the possibility of custom stain applications, allowing designers and homeowners to achieve a specific color or shade that perfectly matches their project's unique color scheme and desired ambiance. This flexibility ensures that the beams can be tailored to nearly any design requirement.
The styling of Aeratis Beam Ceilings extends beyond just color. The inherent texture and the way light interacts with the surface of each beam contribute significantly to their visual appeal. The goal is to provide a realistic simulation of natural wood, ensuring that the beams are not only structurally sound but also aesthetically pleasing and a distinctive element of the overall interior design.

The selection of style options allows for customization to suit a wide array of design concepts, from traditional to contemporary. Whether the goal is a seamless, paintable surface or a ceiling that actively contributes to the room's acoustics and visual texture, National Gypsum Company's gypsum ceiling panels provide a comprehensive set of style choices.

This includes the unique grain patterns, natural color variations, and tactile qualities that make each piece distinct.
Woodtone's construction methods are geared towards creating a finished product that is ready for installation and designed for longevity. The panels and ceiling elements are typically engineered to ensure stability and ease of handling. This can involve precise milling and joinery techniques to create interlocking systems or pre-finished components that simplify the installation process for contractors and DIY enthusiasts alike.
The materials used extend beyond the raw wood itself. Woodtone employs a range of high-quality finishing techniques. These finishes are crucial for protecting the wood, enhancing its natural appearance, and achieving specific aesthetic goals. This often includes:
- Stains: A variety of stains are used to deepen the wood's natural color, provide a uniform tone, or achieve specific hues like rich browns, warm grays, or even darker, more dramatic shades.
- Clear Coats/Sealers: Protective clear coats are applied to seal the wood, guarding against moisture, UV damage, and everyday wear and tear. These finishes preserve the wood's natural look while adding a layer of durability.
- Textured Finishes: Some product lines may feature textured finishes that enhance the tactile and visual appeal of the wood grain, adding depth and character.
The result of this careful construction and material selection is a range of products that are not only visually stunning but also engineered for practical application in residential and commercial environments. Whether used for accent walls, full ceiling installations, or decorative architectural features, Woodtone products aim to deliver a sophisticated and natural aesthetic.
